A homemade, handwritten butterscotch sauce recipe that's carefully cooked to the soft ball stage for perfect consistency. Rich, buttery, and sweet, it makes an excellent topping for ice cream or your favorite dessert.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar(lt. br.)
  • 2 tbsp corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 1 1/2 tbsp butter
  • 1/4 cup hot water(unit inferred from context)
  • vanilla(to taste)

Instructions

    Combine sugar, light brown sugar, corn syrup, and cold water. Cook to 240° (soft ball on Polder thermometer).

    Polder refers to a brand of candy thermometer.

    Remove from heat and add 1 1/2 tbsp butter, 1/4 cup hot water, and vanilla.

    Careful when adding hot water as the sugar mixture will bubble vigorously.
